Job Overview

McCormack Schreiber Legal Search has been retained to conduct a search for a new Executive Director of the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism, a nationally recognized organization established to foster increased civility, professionalism, and inclusiveness among lawyers and judges in Illinois.

Among the Commission’s duties includes promoting awareness of professionalism by all members of the Illinois bench and bar, speaking and writing on the principles of ethical and professional responsibility, approving the content of CLE courses and activities offered to fulfill the state’s professional responsibility requirement (which includes professionalism, civility, legal ethics, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and mental health and substance abuse), and collaborating with law schools, bar associations, the court system, and other legal organizations on programming that advances professionalism.

Other signature programs include a statewide lawyer mentoring program, courthouse professionalism trainings, as well as an annual educational event that explores the intersection of legal innovation and professionalism.

The individual selected as the new Executive Director will be responsible for supervising the mission and programming; tracking emerging events and developments; responding to inquiries from members of the Court, the Commissioners, and the media; preparing and administering the budget and managing resources and personnel; promoting the mission of the organization through social media, writing, and the delivery of CLE programs; facilitating the professional growth of the team; and working closely with the Commissioners on matters concerning governance.

The target candidate for this role will have a J.D., 5+ years of senior management/supervisory experience, and, ideally, 10+ years of experience in program administration. Candidates should be innovative thinkers who embrace novel ways of promoting professionalism. Candidates must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills (including significant experience in public speaking and presentations), as well as strong interpersonal skills and a passion for the mission of advancing civility, inclusiveness, and greater efficacy in Illinois’ legal and judicial systems.
